EXEMPTIONS

The Council has established the following four categories of exemption: 

 

  1. The applicant holds a chiropractic degree from a Council on Chiropractic accredited program.

  2. The applicant has undertaken previous attempts at the CCEA Competency Based Assessment.

  3. The applicant holds a chiropractic degree from Macquarie University, RMIT University (Bundoora Campus), Murdoch University or the New Zealand College of Chiropractic.

  4. The applicant is currently registered and holds a current annual practising certificate in Australia or New Zealand

 

Exemption descriptions are as follows:

 

Exemption Category 1

An exemption from Part 1– Written Basic Competency may be granted if a candidate provides evidence of graduating from a Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) accredited program.  CCE accredited programs are recognised by the CCEA as having educational processes, practice competencies and structures that are substantially comparable with those in Australia.

 

Exemption Category 2

If a candidate has successfully completed sections of the Competency Based Assessment at passes of more than fifteen percentage points above the pass mark they may be granted exemptions in those sections at future attempts at the Competency Based Assessment.  Exemptions granted under this category are only valid for a period of two years.

 

Exemption Category 3

If a candidate holds a chiropractic degree from one of the above Chiropractic Programs, they will receive a full exemption from undertaking the Stage 2 Competency Based Assessment however are still required to complete the Stage 1 Desktop Audit.

 

Exemption Category 4

If a candidate holds current Australian or New Zealand registration, including a current annual practising certificate, they will receive a full exemption from undertaking the Stage 2 Competency Based Assessment however are still required to complete the Stage 1 Desktop Audit.

 

How to apply for exemption 

Candidates must apply for exemption in writing at the time of lodging their application and must arrange for all relevant supporting documentation to be forwarded directly to the CCEA (see documents to be provided directly by teaching/testing entity above).

 

Please remember, unless you fit into Exemption Category 3 or 4, you will be required to undertake AT LEAST the Part 2 and Part 3 components.
