About the Chiropractic Overseas Assessment Committee (COAC)

The COAC is a standing committee of the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia (CCEA).  The COAC carries out the following functions on behalf of the CCEA:

bullet

skills recognition for migration purposes;

bullet

determining competency to practise as a chiropractor in Australia;

bullet

developing and administering the competency examinations.

The skills recognition process
The CCEA skills recognition process was devised to enable overseas trained chiropractors to demonstrate their competence to practise according to professional standards in Australia.

The CCEA is also responsible for providing skills assessments for overseas resident chiropractors who obtained their qualifications in Australia or New Zealand, or who hold a current Australian or New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate and seek to migrate to Australia.  These applicants are not required to complete either Pathway however they are required to complete the Desktop Audit process.

Applicants applying for migration to Australia
The CCEA strongly recommends that applicants contact Australian migration authorities about the requirements for skilled migration to Australia, as the skills assessment provided by the CCEA is only one component of the migration application.  The website for the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will be a helpful first point of contact for enquiries about migration matters.  The address is www.diac.gov.au.

 The following pages:

bullet

briefly describe the examination process;

bullet

give you access to the Candidate Guide and Application Forms; and

bullet

provide sample questions within the Examination Guidelines and Preparation.

The Council, while having New Zealand representation, does not evaluate a person's suitability to migrate to, or practise in New Zealand.  If you are planning on working in New Zealand you should contact the New Zealand Chiropractic Board.
